FILM: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)

by · August 16, 2010

That’s ALMOST all I have to say about it, but I’m totally going to try and stretch it out a bit because that movie was so hilariously AWESOME.

First of all, I want to see it again. I was a jerk on Friday night telling Fergie that I didn’t want to see the same movie two nights in a row. And, well, we saw Inception on Saturday night instead, BUT – if we did have to see Scott Pilgrim vs. the World again I wouldn’t have minded. Not at all. I need to own this movie and I need to watch it eleventy billion times.

Do I know anything about Scott Pilgrim vs. the World? Not entirely. I know that the movie is based on a graphic novel Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O’Malley (which I wouldn’t mind picking up for the sake of checking out and owning). I knew, because of the previews, that the movie was going to be pretty entertaining and based on Michael Cera running around beating up seven “evil exes” of the girl of his dreams. And the girl of his dreams was apparently literal. The scene when he goes looking for her at that party had me roaring with laughter. Everything about this film was fantastic. The “pac-man-pick-up-line” scene was priceless. Gotta hand it to a nerd to make things awkward in those situations. How could you not fall head over heels for Michael Cera when he says, pathetically, “I”ll leave you alone forever now.”

I “friends-off”ed a person because of an air headed comment they made on my Facebook page after I posted about how awesome this movie was. “But, it looks sooooooo stupid,” she said. Yeah, I know right? Totally friends off.

Everything from the music, to the clever fight scenes, the dialogue, all of the characters… everything was awesome. Michael Cera is fantastic at playing that kind of character. I wish we could be friends.

Jason Schwartzman, obviously, ended up being my favourite evil ex, and his character was the mastermind behind the entire League of Exes. He was the evilestetstetst. Beck composed the two songs played by Sex Bob Omb. Many other good musicians contributed as well.

How can you not love this:

Anyway, go see this movie. It’s too good for me to ruin here. Tell me what you think if you’ve already had the pleasure to watch it.
